Lecture: Architecture of the in-between
Matthijs Bouw will be giving a lecture during the International Architecture Festival in Barcelona, eme 3. The festival aims to reflect about the present situation of the architectural discipline, as well as the role played by the architect, in order to rethink its possibilities, compromises and limits. In his lecture titled Architecture of the in-between Matthijs Bouw will be talking about the practice of One Architecture related to complex urban interventions. When democracy and civic society fails in keeping in check the rampant development of a city that they are working in, as in Tbilisi, One Architecture has designed its own opposition. One Architecture is now ready to speculate what their experiences can mean for an architectural and urban practice that oscillates between the mainstream and what used to be called the avant-garde, and between the marginal and the powerful.
During the festival the cubes from the project The New Map of Tbilisi, that were originally designed for the Biennale in Rotterdam, will be exhibited again.

About us
One Architecture is an Amsterdam based architecture and planning firm run by Matthijs Bouw. One Architecture uses design and strategic thinking to reduce complexity and to bring people together, in terms of process and engagement, in space and in beautiful environments. One’s work includes: architecture, urbanism, planning and more. One Architecture’s approach has resulted in successful projects which include the much discussed design for Les Halles in Paris (with OMA and XDGA) in 2004, urban plans for Gouda, Deventer and Tbilisi (Georgia) and the realization of Health Center Jozef in Deventer. Matthijs Bouw regularly publishes articles on One Architecture’s practice and ideas. Currently we are working, amongst others, on several health care buildings, a number of urban renewal projects and the Olympic Framework for the Dutch bid on the games in 2028.
