New Project: Olympic Framework

VROM has commissioned One Architecture, in a combination with Zwarts & Jansma Architecten to design the Olympic framework for the Netherlands. The development of the Olympic framework (Olympische Hoofd Structuur - OHS) is part of the spatial ambition of the Olympic Plan “Nederland is in 2028 een land met een goed leefklimaat, voldoende sportaccommodaties, en een goede mobiliteit.” The OHS approaches the spatial assignment related to ambitions in the field of sports, economy, sustainability, welfare and society. The OHS will serve the purpose of a catalyst for spatial development in the Netherlands. Commissioner Henk Ovink, director of National Spatial Development of VROM, said the following on the importance of the OHS: “The Games give focus. The Olympic Games are spatially what we need in the Netherlands at the minimum. By using the Games to invest in the most urgent spatial questions, we avoid that the investments are a waste of money. The investments should be robust and sustainable, and contribute to the spatial developments in the Netherlands after 2028.” Together with Olympisch Vuur (Olympic fire), stakeholders and experts One Architecture and Zwarts & Jansma Architecten will explore, in the coming months, the different issues and will generate ideas. Purpose is to develop a clear idea of the range of possibilities for the spatial planning for the Olympic Structure in the Netherlands, and the measures to be taken for a successful bid. This way, in the fall, the newly installed Government can quickly make decisions and, after the design phase is finished, implement the Olympic Structure.
