One Architecture receives honorable mention at Hedy d’Ancona Award

Health Center Jozef in Deventer has received an honorable mention at the Hedy d’Ancona Award ceremony for excellence in health architecture. Out of one hundred and twelve applicants, six projects were nominated and one prize and two honorable mentions were awarded. The jury praised the intelligent way of transforming the former monastery from a closed, introvert building into an accessible health center with an open character towards the neighborhood. Excerpt from the jury report: “The analytical abilities of the architect have been of crucial importance for this intelligent transformation. The architect has made a number of well-chosen, almost bold interventions, which do not feel provocative rather completely natural. This testifies of knowledge, experience and vision. The result is a project that shows understanding, courage and originality.”
Finally, the jury expressed their curiosity about the second phase of the project, in which the nursing home for seniors will be realized in the remaining part of the old monastery.

The Hedy d’Ancona Award is a new award for Dutch health care architecture. The award addresses specifically buildings in the health sector in which urbanism, landscaping and (interior) architecture support the health-concept.
Members of the jury were: Ton Venhoeven (Ton Venhoeven CS, chair of jury), Frans Jaspers (board member UMCG), Durk Kooistra (board member ’s Heeren Loo), Jaap Roëll (former director Cordaan), Dana Ponec (architect Dana Ponec Architecten) and Dorine de Vos (interior design).
