Who cares?
Matthijs Bouw will be giving a lecture at a symposium in Felix Meritis initiated by SKOR on the 30st of October. The symposium Speculations on the Cultural Organisation of Civility is the first in the series of symposia Actors, Agents and Attendants that aims to question the role of art and the creative industries in the formation of contemporary civility. Focusing on healthcare as a prime site of global market-driven transformation in governmental policies, this symposium brings together writers, artists, architects, curators and politicians to question the role of art and its assumed ameliorative function.
The structure of this symposium stages theories and case studies alongside each other, providing a significant and radical overview of the field.
Amongst other speakers are: Ann Demeester (director De Appel), Matthew Taylor (Chief Executive of the RSA and former Chief Advisor to the British Prime Minister), Hedy d’Ancona (politician and sociologist) and Markus Miessen, architect and theorist.

About us
One Architecture is an Amsterdam based architecture and planning firm run by Matthijs Bouw. One Architecture uses design and strategic thinking to reduce complexity and to bring people together, in terms of process and engagement, in space and in beautiful environments. One’s work includes: architecture, urbanism, planning and more. One Architecture’s approach has resulted in successful projects which include the much discussed design for Les Halles in Paris (with OMA and XDGA) in 2004, urban plans for Gouda, Deventer and Tbilisi (Georgia) and the realization of Health Center Jozef in Deventer. Matthijs Bouw regularly publishes articles on One Architecture’s practice and ideas. Currently we are working, amongst others, on several health care buildings, a number of urban renewal projects and the Olympic Framework for the Dutch bid on the games in 2028.
